What color do I paint it?
Deciding what color to paint this car will be a difficult decision. It came from the factory painted Martini Brown (Where did they get that name?). I bought a pint and and had a test panel made. It's a chocolate brown color that would probably look good, especially with the tan top and upholstery, but is not particularly striking. It would be original however and very 1930s looking, which counts for something with me.
I also got a sample of Caribbean Blue Metallic, which is very nice, but almost too modern looking. Besides, there are a lot of blue cars out there already, especially convertibles.
I'm intrigued by Sand Dune Cream, a special color that cost $20 extra in 1936 (a week's pay for many). Here's a picture of a cabriolet scanned from an original sales brochure:
It is definitely different. Andy says he once saw a car this color at a show and it was very distinctive. I bought a pint to test spray a panel, which we will do soon. In the can, the paint doesn't look as bright as in this picture. I'm not sure how it will look with the top and upholstery however.
What do you think?
