How many did they make, Part II

Early I wrote about the 0.7% production percentage that were convertibles for all makes in 1936, so maybe Pontiac made 1,250-1,500 of these cars total and maybe 800-1,000 in the Master Six series. Well, today I remembered that I have the firewall tag from that 8-cylinder convertible that was in Monroe's junkyard. It was a mislabled 2667A (Master Six) tag, and THE BODY NUMBER IS 1,650! Here's the tag:

If they made that many in the Master series, actual production must have been at least double my earlier estimate. Unfortunately, there will never be a way to really know.

I did send letters this week to five Pontiac Michigan retirement/nursing homes asking if any of their residents might have worked at the Pontiac plant in the 1930s and if they would like a pen pal. It's a long shot - wish I thought of the idea 20 years ago – but who knows. Maybe I can find someone with firsthand knowledge about how these cars were built.

I think I'll post to the Buick forum asking if anyone knows how many convertibles Buick made that year. Pontiac and Buick were very close in overall production, so the percentage could be very close for each marque.
